Day 18 (Again): Scrivener's Error

Today is a SAD, SAD day.  I have been doing so well, and then today, as I reviewed my calendar I realized that I have made a terrible, terrible mistake.  I am NOT 19 days into this diet, I am only 18 days into it.  I have no idea how this error occurred.  When I was in law school, we periodically discussed a case where there was "scrivener's errors," which is just a fancy way of saying someone added things up wrong.  I always felt bad for the guy that got called a scrivener by the judge, it seemed like such a harsh and derogatory thing to call someone who simply made a mathematical or technical error.  Then I realized that a scrivener is just what a copyist was called back in the 1800s, and that it wasn't pajorative at all.

It is funny that this term came to my head when I discovered this error, because I heard the word recently in an amazing court case where, as a result of a minor mathematical error, Verizon almost had to pay some pentioners an extra $1.6 billion in benefits.  The error occurred because some guy accidentally used a number 2 instead of a number 1 in some multiplier formula.  The court said that Verizon didn't have to pay up because "people make mistakes."  (If you are interested in the case, it canbe read here.  If you are one of the pensioners, I am really sorry that you lost your $1.6 billion windfall.)

Well, I am sure you can all agree that my mathmatical error rivals Verizon's $1.6 billion one.  I mis-added the days I have been on this diet by a whole day.  Is it a day in my favor?  No, of course not.  Do I know how I could have done such a stupid thing?  No, I do not.  Am I seriously considering calling this whole diet thing thing off?  YES.  What a disaster.

I think this is another clear case of low blood sugar. Apparently math and dieting just do not mix.

I almost stopped at Nathan's today and bought you some ice cream. But Troy thought that would be mean.

I thought a sundae eaten to a little black sabbath seemed fitting.
