Well, folks, I have only two weeks left on the initial lifestyle change. Isn't that amazing? I have never done a diet for this long before, and I have to admit, despite the hard times it has been great to see the changes. Of course, I have a long way to go still, but I just feel good about things and know that I can do it.
Today, as always, I respond to some of your comments.
First, all of all, let me say thank you to everyone once again for the comments wishing me luck and support on the diet. This has, indeed, been a tough time. With your support, however, I feel like I have been able to get through. I had a number of supportive emails, and I think it is fair to say that my friend Paul even chastised me a bit for my attitude. It was well deserved Paul, so thanks for the wake-up call! Anyway, I guess you don't really learn anything if you don't go through the belly of the beast every once in a while, and now I can say I have been in the belly, and survived to tell the tale!
Second, "Denise" left a comment asking why I continually use quotes around her name. Well, "Denise," as you may know, in the world of the Internet, we all have online personae. When you leave a comment as "Denise," I really don't know who you are. The beauty of living in the Internet is that it gives us the opportunity to give ourselves our own names, much like those in the Air Force give their pilot comrades call names. The name "Denise" is really no different that Tom Cruise's "Maverick" or Val Kilmer's "Ice Man."
Now, having said that, it isn't that I can't glean from your name and comments something about you. for example, periodically one Example of an "Emily Merchant" who wrote an encouraging comment on my blog. I do know an Emily Merchant in real life, and it is possible that this virtual "Emily Merchant" is the same person. But, it could be an impostor who just really likes the real Emily Merchant and wants to steal the real Emily Merchant's persona for her own dastardly virtual purposes.
So, there you have it, that is why I put your name in quotes. Of course, if you want to disclose your true identity on the Internet, then I would probably stop putting your name in quotes (if it is, in reality, Denise). I would not, however, suggest doing this as you never know who is out there phishing.
Third, and finally, I want to thank "Denise" for her comments about bacon covered chocolate, a delectable that she obtained, via the Christmas holiday, a few days ago. Apparently the treat is quite good, and she is saving some for me. I hope that this is true, and I am very excited to try it out on December 27. Don't worry, I am making an exception for chocolate covered bacon not because I am going back to candy and high-fat foods. Eating chocolate covered bacon is an experiential food experience (or as I like to refer to them, EFE). An EFE is allowed under my diet so long as it expands my horizons and makes me a more round individual (round as in rounded out mentally, NOT physically).
Anyway, keep the comments coming, you know I love them. Oh, and will SOMEONE out there show up "Denise" and write a few comments. Don't get me wrong, "Denise" is great, but I know there are more of you out there. Leave a comment!
