Day 105: I HATE the New Scale

Okay, so I opened up the new scale this morning to check it out.  It is a high-tech looking thing with polished sliver trim and a back-lit blue digital display.  It is pretty cool looking.  I popped in the batteries and then hopped on to weigh myself.  Okay, I knew that I was probably going to weigh a little more than 100 pounds, but I admit I was hoping for a weight calibration that would put me a few ounces lower than the other scale.  Instead, to my horror, the scale added almost four pounds.  I did everything I could to get rid of the extra weight, but it was to no avail.  By buying a new scale, I have added four pounds just like that.  It really isn't fair.  And this on top of working extra hard to get off the plateau.  This is just not my week.

I hate this scale, but despite my best attempt to have my wife return it, I fear we will have it for a long, long time.  I suppose I am just going to have to work even harder to get the weight off for the next few weeks, both to get off the plateau and to make up for the extra weight added by the scale.

The worst thing is when Maggie came up to me and asked if we could get some ice cream.

Me:  "No Sweetheart, I can't go."

Maggie:  "Why not, you are off the diet, remember."

Me:  "No, Maggie, I gained all the weight back this morning.  Easy come, easy go."  (Actually, in this case it was easy go, easy come.)

I don't think I will ever forget the crestfallen look on that poor child's face.  The saddest thing was that I think she was far more disappointed that I had not met my goal than she was that she didn't get a treat.
