No, folks, I have absolutely no idea how I could have eaten three hot dogs yesterday, two s'mores with "Fun Size" Hershey bars, two s'mores with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (Have you ever had one of these? They aren't traditional, but they are dang good!), and (oh, and I forgot to report this last night) a few handfuls of popcorn, and yet still lose some weight. I guess it goes to show when you are in a losing mentality, you can do anything! Seriously, it was a huge miracle for me. I was pretty disappointed in myself yesterday, and I felt terrible. The body really can pick up on big diet changes like that, and after doing so well all week (okay, except for that cornbread and honey butter), my body still punished me for eating so poorly.
The key is to keep the memory? You have to remember how bad you feel when eat like this. It took me about four mistakes on the diet going to Five Guys to get a giant burger (with two patties, cheese, relish, onion, ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc., etc., etc., it kind of makes my stomach turn thinking about it) before I realized just how bad my body feels afterwards. It doesn't mean that I will never eat one again, it just means that I now remember before hand what I will feel afterwards. That, of course, means that I really will only go there in an emergency (Which, by the way, my family had a few months ago coming back from Charlottesville, when we hadn't eaten all day and had to get something ASAP. When the choice was between waiting for 1.5 hours at Chili's, McDonald's, and Five Guys, the Guys won out.). It was a thing of beauty, I must admit, to know in advance that I wasn't going to feel very good after eating there. And my body confirmed this in various and sundry ways about 30 minutes after finishing the last peanut-oil-fried french fry.
Anyway, one week down and I am almost a quarter of the way through. I am very optimistic about next week!
