Day 187: Losing My Research

Oh, what a day.  I realized when I got to the gym today that I had misplaced my weight lifting log.  This is a pile of papers I keep with me so I know what exercises I have done, how many I have done, and what weight I have used.  I asked at the front desk if anyone had turned any papers in, but no one had.

Six weeks of research lost!  I am the kind of person that writes everything down so I don't have to remember it.  To be honest, this is going to be a huge mess.  I can't even remembered how much weight I lifted yesterday, let alone for the last two weeks (I am on a two week rotating schedule, so there are LOTS of numbers).  Very frustrating.

If you have started exercising, I would actually suggest having a log like this.  It is really nice to be able to describe how much weight you have lifted, but it is also helpful for other reasons.  Sometimes I catch myself doing an exercise wrong, so I will make notes about it.  I also decide whether I am lifting too much or not enough, so next time I lift the optimal amount.  Before I exercise, I go through the last week's notes to make sure that I am not missing anything, or to make sure I adjust an exercise if needed.

Sure, it is a little awkward walking around the gym with a pile of papers, but let's be honest, it has been awkward being the only fat guy walking around the gym doing anything.  The exercise log leads to simplicity, and simplicity is ALWAYS good.
