A Year Without

When you start something like a diet, you always do so with the intention of making it last.  You think to yourself, "This time, when I am done, I really will look like Brad Pitt."  (Actually, I have never thought about looking like Brad Pitt, but just imagine my face on this picture of him, don't I look good?)  For a few weeks, you keep that image in your head, and you fight for it.  Then, that image pops out of your head as you pass "Lilly Jane's All Natural Cupcakes" (hey, they are all-natural).  Brad Pitt is replaced by a Carmel Apple Yum-Yum Cup Cake, and the downfall begins.

Anyway, every once in a while--every once in a blue moon--something sticks.  Something that you choose to do and stick with.  For me, that something is Coke.  Today marks that 365 day in a row that I have lived without Coke.  There have been many times, particularly on the rough journey from my old life in east to my new life in the west where I have wondered if it was worth it, where I have thought "just one won't hurt," but I have never succumbed.

This, of course, naturally caused me to think about what I want in the next 365 days.  The answer to that is easy:  I want to look like Brad Pitt.

I hate to be a one-upper, but I have been 2,138 days without carbonation. Beat that!
